Singapore Chinese terms for travel and transport

Understand everyday expressions while preserving official names.

Separate local expressions from names

Singapore Chinese commonly uses terms such as 德士 for taxi and 巴士 for bus. Keep street names, booking references and station names exactly as needed for travel documents.

Use the sentence as context

An everyday example is 我搭德士到巴士站,再转车. A natural conversational sentence may differ from the official wording on a transport operator's notice.

Review automatic replacements

Read the change list rather than copying the result blindly. A transport or housing system in another country is not necessarily the equivalent Singapore service.

Verify formal information

Use official service pages for current procedures and names. The Singaporean Mandarin Database can help with vocabulary, including historical and conversational usage; it does not make every entry the sole current formal term.
